Republicans are spolied unless they realize they are privileged. To be blunt, my roommate Kyle is a jackass. I don't want to be politically biased, but he is Republican -- and it shows in the worst ways. Last night, he was talking to my neighbor about how America is a culture that "always wants more." "I mean, I don't have everything, but I am content and happy," he said with a smile on his face. His naive', "Ohian" accent showing in the worst way. Kyle drives a Lexus. He rides horse and hunts foxes. He wears ugly sequent colored shirts. He lives in a world where he isn’t challenged; where everything has been handed to him. He doesn’t have “everything” and he is “content and happy.” The homeless man who I see almost everyday that “lives” somewhere on Wisconsin Ave. hasn’t taken a shower or brushed his teeth in years. He has been wearing the same clothes for years. He digs through the trash cans around the Metro for food. He doesn’t even have the essentials, the necessities of life, and something gives me the impression that on the inside he is not a very content and happy person. God bless America. What makes it worse is that I am writing this on a $1400 laptop in a dress shirt and tie under a roof that my parents pay for. I remember once that Sunny and he friend Aja were talking about if they thought that they were “spoiled.” They came to the conclusion that they were just “privileged and lucky” -- Kyle differs from this because he doesn’t see the difference. |
